BLUE
We love blue, it`s the colour of the clear sky and the deep sea. We commonly associate one of the three primary colours with harmony, faithfulness, confidence, distance, infinity, imagination, cold, and sometimes with sadness.
Developing blue colourants goes back 5’000 years.
It started with the semi-precious stone Lapis Lazuli, but with time, other materials evolved, resulting in the pigment Ultramarine and then organic and synthetic dyes as we know them today.
We believe in organic and biodegradable colours - for the sake of our blue planet.
ORGANIC MATERIAL
We believe that safe materials matter - for you and for the environment.
Organic cotton is grown without harmful pesticides and insecticides which preserves the soil. Furthermore, less water is used for cultivation.
Our garments are made of organic or recycled materials only and restrain from petroleum-based fabrics like polyester.
We use untreated wooden buttons and nickel free pins.
90% of our fabrics are GOTS certified and we aim to use Cradle to Cradle® Certified materials wherever possible.
ETHICS
Sitting around the table and looking into people’s eyes makes quite a difference when establishing strong relationships.
We visit and exchange regularly with our partners. We know their needs and they know ours. We respect and support each other to find mutual solutions, e.g. reasonable production and delivery terms.
Over the years we build trustful partnerships to co-create innovative and sustainable products.
DENIM
The history of blue jeans began in 1853 when a Bavarian named Levi Strauss brought the denim fabric to America. In 1873 the first denim pants were tailored by Jacob W. Davis in Nevada. Today there are millions of different denims. The longevity of a denim depends on the quality of the cotton, its yarn, the dyeing and how the threads are woven.
Our denim is made of organic cotton in Italy, in a traditional and very dense weaving process. We add a minimum of comfort and exclude any chemical finishes. This makes our garments stay nice in shape over time.
You will feel the difference when wearing our jackets, pants or skirts: great touch and perfect fit.
CRADLE TO CRADLE CERTIFIED®
Cradle to Cradle Certified® certification is based on the following 5 principles: material health, reuse of materials, use of renewable energy, social fairness and responsible water consumption. Depending on the degree to which all these criteria are met in manufacturing, there are different certification levels. We aim for the gold level.
PLANET
The Blue suit for a blue planet.
Besides using new organic materials we also have to re-think the use of existing materials to preserve and regenerate natural resources.
By doing this we can close the loop and create circular clothing.
WATER
A glass of fresh water. This is the amount we use to rinse a pair of jeans using the E-Flow Technology. This results in 75% less water consumption than ordinary denim washing techniques.
For the new Lyocell products we can even reduce it to half a glass.
Furthermore, the water is captured, reused and filtered at our laundry site in Italy.
AIR
We choose the natural way to dry our garments once they are rinsed.
Hanging up every single piece and letting them dry by air takes time, but preserves the quality of the garment and reduces the amount of energy in the production process compared to conventional tumble dry.
CIRCULAR CLOTHING
Our aim is a zero-waste textile industry for a better planet.
This is the truthful motivation for initiating the pioneer project CIRCULAR CLOTHING. A platform for Swiss textile labels to collaborate on materials and methods that are safe for humans and the environment.
With the Blue suit as USE CASE, we pave the way towards a shared Cradle to Cradle Certified® supply chain and certification.
PEOPLE
If you visit the atelier of our manufacturer in Italy, you could look over the shoulders of Monica, the dressmaker, sewing the whole jacket for you.
And of course, there would be enough time for a break and a chat with a delicious Italian coffee.
Do you know who made your clothes?
SDG`s
A Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) is a plan for a sustainable planet, a road map to a brighter future for humanity.
We are supporting SDG #12 for Responsible Consumption, SDG #13 for Climate Action, and SDG #17 for Partnerships for the Goals.
GOING CIRCULAR
Nowadays only 1% of textiles remains in a closed cycle where new clothes are made out of textile waste.
73% end up in landfills or are incinerated and 12% are recycled - going to 2nd hand stores or downcycled, e.g. cleaning items.
12% are lost in the production process and another 2% lost during the recycling process.
For the future we envision a zero-waste industry where resources are used in a closed loop. This can be achieved by using fewer virgin and more recycled materials, by making products last, by repairing and reusing them. And last but not least by consuming less.
GOTS
The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibres, including ecological and social criteria. It ensures that no pesticides or other toxic materials are used.
We aim to use natural, organic or recycled materials only and restrain from petroleum-based fabrics like polyester. Most of our organic fabrics are GOTS certified.
GRS
The Global Recycle Standard (GRS) is an international, voluntary, full product standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices and chemical restrictions.
The objectives of the GRS are to define requirements to ensure accurate content claims and good working conditions, and that harmful environmental and chemical impacts are minimised. This includes companies in ginning, spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing and stitching in more than 50 countries.
STS 2030
STS 2030 is a multi-stakeholder program with the mission to make a significant contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Swiss textile and apparel sector along the entire value chain.
the Blue suit is committed to the Sustainable Textiles Switzerland 2030 program since 30.06.2022. With its commitment, the Blue suit confirms that it will take measures to ensure the achievement of the following goals: 1. reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. 2. promoting fair wages and decent work for all. 3. promoting innovative business models towards a circular economy. 4. transparency to ensure that sustainable purchasing decisions can be made.
